Interdepartmental Laboratory of Medical Biology was established in accordance with the University Senate’s Resolution of June 27, 2012. Four years later, by the decision of the PUMS Rector, prof. Jacek Wysocki, M.D., Ph.D., the name of the laboratory was changed to the Poznan University of Medical Sciences Core Facility (PUMS Core Facility). On March 30, 2016, the Laboratory of Experimental Animals was established within the unit. In January 2018, the Laboratory of Experimental Animals was registered by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. In May 2018, our facility joined the Polish Biobanking Network, obtaining the Observer status.
The PUMS Core Facility is located in the building of the Medical Biology Centre at 8 Rokietnicka Street in Poznan. The unit consists of: Bioimaging laboratory, Protein laboratory, Immunochemistry laboratory, Cell Culture laboratory, Molecular Biology laboratory I, Molecular Biology laboratory II, Biochemistry laboratory and Microbilogy laboratory. In addition, the unit has also some additional supportive facilities, which include: a washing room, sterilization room, cold room, reagent, glass and plastic warehouses, and a biobank (storage in liquid nitrogen and low-temperature freezers).
On March 20, 2020, Coronavirus University Laboratory was established within the PUMS Core Facility. The laboratory is focused on the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infections by RT-PCR and belongs to the greatest facilities in this branch in Poland.
